The A/V Department, Classes

Meetings every Tuesday in Room 106 of Guzman Hall.

Greendale offers a wide array of Film Studies classes (taught by yours truly) including:

  • Beginners Film Studies:
Watch and analyze history's most influential films!
  • Middle Film Studies: Watch and analyze slightly less but still very influential films!
  • Advanced Film Studies: Watch and analyze weird films influential to only a few people!
  • Television Criticism 101:
What's boring about vampire shows? Why is Survivor still on the air? Is NBC really the best network? Discover how to determine good the good TV from the bad. Learn to critique and discuss what's on the boob tube.
  • Sitcom Studies:
Discuss and analyze the various forms of situation comedies through television history: the "family unit" comedy, the "workplace" comedy, and the rare but often excellent "study group" comedy.
  • Intro to Filmmaking:
Less talk, more play. Learn the basic tools of making movies by digging in and making some movies. Over the semester you will produce and direct a variety of films, from the documentary to the 15th century England period film. Must provide your own camera and editing software.
  • Advanced Filmmaking:
In this advanced film class students will act as a real life motion picture crew for an original feature film directed by me, Professor Andrew Hancock! Jobs will be assigned, from craft service to boom mic operator, and we'll work together to make some art. This spring, be sure to sign up to take part in making "The Angels and the Demons of Springbrook College" an original script written by Andrew Hancock about a charming but shy college professor at the end of the line.

Thanks for stopping by and remember: Meetings every Tuesday in Room 106 of Guzman Hall!

Love,
-Prof. Andrew Hancock
